Louis Pérez is the J. Carlyle Sitterson Professor of History at the University of North Carolina, and a distinguished historian of Cuba. Professor Pérez has been invited to treat himself as a "living document", to reflect upon influences, obstacles, trajectories in research and writing, and the experiences of graduate school and academia. He is also invited to talk about whatever he wishes, from his ideals as a scholar and teacher, through the connections he perceives with other "sub-fields" and disciplines, to his abiding frustrations and unrealised dreams. The evening offers an opportunity for students and faculty -- with interests across fields and periods -- to think together. Our guest's opening reflections leads into general discussion and a welcome party for Louis Pérez.
Food and drink will be provided.
Please RSVP to Kenneth Mills (ken.mills@utoronto.ca) before Sunday, 26 February.
