A Discussion with Louis Pérez

Thursday, 2 March -- 6:30 pm with the discussion to begin at c 7:00 pm
32 Howland Avenue (Howland runs North of Bloor St. West, two streets East of Bathurst. Nearest TTC subways are Bathurst, Spadina.) Please RSVP: camille.harrison@utoronto.ca
Louis Pérez , J. Carlyle Sitterson Professor of History at the University of North Carolina, and a distinguished historian of Cuba.

Our visitor will lead a discussion at which everyone, across subfields and disciplines, is welcome. Professor Pérez is invited to treat himself as a "living document" -- that is, to reflect on how he came to his research paths, his writing, his teaching, his thinking, and why. What influences, what turning points, what connections have proved important? What highlights and inspirations, what obstacles, reverses, regrets and doubts, and what "unfinished business" remains? The aim is to provide all of us (and particularly students) with a more personal point of entry on to historical interpretation than is often possible. Opening remarks will be followed by questions and discussion, and then by a welcome party for Louis Pérez.
