Robert Whitney is Associate Professor of History and International Studies at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John. He is author of State and Revolution in Cuba: Mass Mobilization and Political Change, 1920-1940(2001). His articles have been published in the Journal of Latin American Studies, The Latin American Research Review, among other scholarly journals. His current research explores the history of the British West Indian community in Cuba and, along with Graciela Chailloux Laffita of the University of Havana, he will co-author a forthcoming book entitled Caribbean Connections: Cuba and the Hispanic Caribbean, 1900-1960 (forthcoming from the University Press of Florida). Professor Whitney visited us last year as part of the Americas "planning & facilitation" session dedicated especially to the Caribbean and Latin American regions, and he has emerged as a key partner in the emergence of CASA, the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Americas.
