Sandra Borda is a PhD Candidate in Political Science at the University of Minnesota. She earned an M.A. in Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, an M.A. in International Relations at the University of Chicago and, a B.A. in Political Science at the Universidad de Los Andes (Bogota-Colombia). Her research seeks to explain why and how domestic actors decide to invite international actors to participate in their struggle. Sandra has taught (as an instructor) various classes on IR theories, Global Governance, Colombian and U.S. foreign policies and Research Methods at the University of Minnesota and at various universities in Colombia. She has also published articles and book chapters related to the role of civil society and mass media in Colombian foreign policy, and on the new theoretical approaches to the war on drugs (she explored this last topic in her M.A. thesis under the direction of Professor Alex Wendt and was awarded an Honours distinction). Sandra Borda has been awarded the IEPRI-Colciencias Fellowship (Colombia), the Tinker-Nave Summer Fellowship (Wisconsin) and she was a Visiting Scholar at the ITAM (Mexico City) during the second semester of 2006. She is currently a Visiting Scholar at Latin American Studies and the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto.
