Dr. Victor Rivas teaches in the Latin American Studies program - LAS200Y (Latin American History, Civilization, and Culture), and LAS301H (Topics in the Humanities - Latin America and the Caribbean Through Film), at the University of Toronto. Dr. Rivas received his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. His research interests include contemporary Latin American literature, film, and cultural studies; nineteenth-century Latin America and the ideological legacy of Simón Bolívar; cultural resistance, non-canonical, subaltern, and testimonial literature; issues of representation in Trans-american texts; US Latino/a texts; the politics of culture and media; and, postmodern and post-colonial theory and criticism.
